I had never heard of financial therapy but I’m SO glad I came across Aseel’s work. Each session helped crack open parts of my life I hadn’t even realized were driving daily discomfort. I thought of money as something that just needed to be managed. But through the course I realized just how misaligned my financial actions were with who I believed myself to be. Years of being underpaid and various childhood experiences left me treating money in a way that felt anxious and insecure.

But that’s not who I am anymore. Because of Aseel’s course, my financial decisions now align with and contribute to the person I’m proud to be. I’m confident, independant, creative and values-driven. I joined Aseel’s 8 weeks pilot course “Financial Therapy for Arab Women”. Every session was profound. Aseel understands the emotional struggles and what it means to be stuck. She addresses everyone with a lot of compassion and knowledge, which allows all the participants to feel safe, open up and entangle those layers and get unstuck. We worked through the deeply ingrained social taboos and shame imposed on women that shaped a dysfunctional relationship with money and family. The course provides practical tools to work the emotional hurdle out and create a new relationship with money and wealth. My attitude towards money shifted from feeling drained and helpless to building towards stability and growth shamelessly.

Being a part of the Date Your Money program has allowed me to think beyond my own set limitations. I am now on my way to not just dreaming about the possibilities, but also materializing those dreams. Aseel has given me the tools and necessary steps towards understanding my present identity and creating a new one that is a much happier and joyful version of myself. For years I had been struggling with my past and underlying insecurities that I had unconsciously built and she has been such a blessing in allowing me to uncover my past and forge my truth for the present and future. Aseel’s course was very eye-opening. I am in my 50’s and thought that I have my relationship with money figured out by now. In November 2021, Aseel El Baba’s Money Monsters presentation was headlined as part of Mohawk College’s National Financial Literacy Month activities.  The event was thoughtful, informative and provided students with valuable insight into their money personalities.  The virtual event was a success and well-received by our students with many commenting on the fun and interactive format.
